Good Sports is proud to have been selected as one of six charities that FOX Sports will support in 2018.

Good Sports and FOX Sports will be leveraging the release of FOX Sports Films’ MAGNIFY Shot in the Dark documentary, executive produced by Dwyane Wade and Chance the Rapper. The partnership will provide sports and fitness equipment donations to kids in Chicago.

The film follows Orr Academy’s high school basketball team and its stars Tyquone Greer and Marquise Pryor as they aspire for greatness under inspirational head coach Lou Adams.

Shot in the Dark will have a dedicated page on the Good Sports Equip-A-Kid website www.goodsports.org/shotinthedark, where donors will have the ability to select specific equipment to be donated.

By visiting the Shot in the Dark website, donors will have a variety of sports to browse and “buy” specific equipment. With the donations that come through this page Good Sports will purchase the exact gear that was selected to support youth programs in Chicago. All donations made through the Shot in the Dark web page will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 by 21st Century Fox through August 24, 2018.

In addition, Good Sports and FOX Sports kicked off the partnership with equipment donations to two schools where they were showing screenings of the film. Downtown Magnets High School in LA and Mumford High School in Detroit each received $20,000 of new equipment to help their PE classes and sports teams!

At Mumford High School the kids were already excited from the movie – jumping up out of their seats and cheering during triumphant scenes. When the curtain was pulled away after the film, the emotions remained high as students who felt they were on “forgotten teams” were moved to tears by the brand new equipment, namely the volleyball and soccer teams.

The girls basketball team was even recognized on stage before the unveiling. They were set to play in the city championship game the next day. That was the first time they’d made it in 40 years (and they won!). The day was truly inspirational!

Downtown Magnets High School captured the moment the equipment was revealed on tape. There was yelling and cheering and incredible applause from everyone there, and for the second time in a week some were even brought to tears.

The new equipment is already inspiring some of the students to achieve their goals as both students and athletes. One of the schools’ basketball player’s  even said:

“with a surprise in the end, we got $20,000 worth of stuff for the basketball team, soccer team, tennis team, any team actually. And it’s really touching…it could help us out in the future and probably bring a championship here to our school.”
