Last April was Good Sports’ first time as an Official Charity of the Boston Marathon. Being a nonprofit that knows all about the benefits of youth sports, we were thrilled to recruit a team of runners who are deeply connected about our mission. We look back at our 2018 team in such high regard; it only makes us more excited for the next one.
Each runner set ambitious fundraising goals and blew us away when the team raised over $127,000. One runner – a Colorado native – raised over $6,000 in under 48-hours on Giving Tuesday. It was great to see our team was quick on their feet and in raising awareness for Good Sports.
Training proved to be challenging, with local Boston runners enduring one of the coldest winters in recent memory. Running coach, Dan Fitzgerald of Heartbreak Hill Running Company, kept the team motivated and healthy. The Team encouraged one another with words and snow-covered selfies as they progressed through their training.
The Team had the chance to check out our Field House and pack equipment kits to be delivered to the Boys & Girls Clubs, Police Athletic Leagues and Boston Public Schools. The runners finished their Marathon journey with Good Sports by getting their hands out the sports and fitness equipment that will make a difference in the lives of kids in need. We could not have had a better team for our first year as an Official Charity!
The 2019 Boston Marathon may be months away, but we all know that with training, fundraising and fitting into the perfect pair of sneakers, that day just sneaks up on you. That’s why we’re here reminding you that the deadline to apply for our team is literally DAYS AWAY!
Our deadline is midnight on 10/31 and the application can be found right here.
